He just mentioned that he had been a flight instructor for many years and had a lot of hours in light aircraft, but would not attempt to do what this guy was about to unless it was a dire emergency. The pilot turned his plane around and went to an airport with better weather. I'm guessing that save his life.<br />I am sorry to hear of this accident, he will be missed. Too long to remember. It was over labor day. We were in the PA-28 N20LA. On the way back when we got back to Michigan in the UP, Mike filed IFR because the weather looked a little iffy in Wisconsin. We flew through a good front with limited visibility and of course sometimes none. When we broke out on the other side somewhere east of Eau Claire, Mike started to tear up his flight plan sheet into 2 inch squares, licking one side, placing them over the instruments. Then I noticed some of the gauges were giving bad readings. His objective was to hide the gauges so it wouldn't lead us astray? The vacuum pump had failed.
